Abode are not a name you will see in the big tackle shops and that is partly why this bivvy is worth knowing about.
The Falcon DPM is manufactured by a small independent UK company and sold direct through Koala Products, which means the margins are tight and the price reflects that rather than brand premium.
What you get for the money is genuinely impressive.
The five-rib aluminium frame with centre boss goes up in around a minute. The skull cap clips on once the bivvy is erected to help with condensation. The vapour shield hooks to elasticated loops inside to add another layer of moisture management.
The PVC groundsheet zips in. Two storm poles are included. The five mozzy mesh vent panels – two rear, two front side and one door – give you more ventilation options than most bivvies at twice the price.
The 5,000mm hydrostatic head rating is the significant caveat. This is a fair weather and moderate rain shelter.
The DPM 210D fabric is tape sealed at the seams which helps, but 5,000mm is not a figure that inspires confidence in a January downpour. The optional overwrap available separately converts it to a twin-skin setup for winter use, which is worth considering if you fish through autumn.
At 280cm wide and 225cm deep with 150cm of headroom it is a properly sized 1 man shelter.
