Avid Carp Revolve NG 1 Man Bivvy

Let’s be honest, the original Revolve bivvy did rather well for itself, and this NG version is Avid taking that formula and quietly sharpening it up rather than reinventing the wheel.

It’s a twin rib, flat back pram hood design, which if you’ve never used one simply means two curved ribs give you a rounded, tent like profile rather than the boxier look of a rigid framed shelter. It’s an old school shape that’s stood the test of time for good reason, plenty of room inside and a stable, predictable pitch.

Setup is proper pole and frame rather than a pop up quick erect system, so you will be threading poles through sleeves and pegging out corners rather than flicking it open in ten seconds flat. It’s not difficult, and once you’ve done it a couple of times it becomes second nature, but if you’re coming from a quick erect bivvy expect a slightly longer job on the bank, especially in the wind or the dark.

Where this bivvy really earns its keep is space and value.

At 260cm wide and 250cm deep, there’s a genuinely generous footprint here, plenty of room for a sleep system, chair, and all your bits without feeling like you’re living in a coffin. The large extended peak at the front does a great job of keeping driving rain off the door area, and the front panel can be rolled back entirely on finer days if you fancy fishing more open.

The two way letterbox door with its integrated mesh panel and PVC window is a genuinely thoughtful touch, letting you keep an eye on your rods from inside without fully unzipping in the cold.

Fabric wise, the 10,000mm hydrostatic head khaki material is solid rather than spectacular. It’s not going to match the eye watering numbers you see on flagship bivvies from the bigger brands, but for the vast majority of UK weather, including a proper autumn soaking, it holds up perfectly well.

The large rear mesh vent is a genuinely useful addition for warmer sessions, letting stale air out without you needing to leave the front wide open and invite every moth in the county inside.

Build quality feels a notch above what you’d expect at this end of the market. Stitching is tidy, the fabric feels reasonably robust in the hand, and the supplied groundsheet, heavy-duty pegs and oversized carry bag all feel like genuine additions rather than an afterthought bundled in to tick a box.

It won’t survive a full blown gale quite as confidently as some rigid framed shelters, but for the vast majority of UK bank conditions, it’s a genuinely reassuring shelter to bed down in.
