The WhichBivvy Verdict

The Fox Easy Brolly is the honest answer to a question most tackle shops do not want to answer: do you actually need a full bivvy for the sessions you do?

If you are fishing daylight to dark in spring and summer, moving swims regularly and not planning to sleep in the rain, a full pram hood bivvy is carrying a lot of weight for something you are going to use as a rain shelter for a few hours.

The Easy Brolly 60 Inch does that job in 5.9kg including groundsheet and pegs.

The oval frame with four ribs touching the ground is noticeably more stable than round brolly alternatives and the Quick Clip storm pole system means the poles are permanently attached to the frame so no fumbling around trying to fit them in the dark or in the rain.

The 60 inch diameter fits a standard bedchair comfortably which is not always a given at this size.

At 8,000mm waterproofing this is a fair weather and moderate rain shelter. It handles typical spring and summer conditions without issue. It is not a winter shelter and Fox do not claim it is.

The groundsheet is included which is genuinely useful at this price. There is no mozzy mesh front available as a Fox accessory for this specific model which is worth knowing before buying if summer insects are a concern.

Pros & Cons

What we like

  • 5.9kg including groundsheet and pegs is genuinely light for an overnight capable shelter
  • Quick Clip storm pole system attaches permanently to the frame for fast deployment
  • Oval frame with four ground-touching ribs is more stable than round brolly alternatives
  • 60 inch diameter fits a standard bedchair comfortably
  • Groundsheet included in the box
  • At this price point it is one of the most affordable overnight capable shelters on the market
  • Space saving rib mechanism maximises usable internal space for the footprint

Watch out for

  • 8,000mm waterproofing is adequate for fair weather but will struggle in prolonged winter rain
  • No mozzy mesh front available from Fox for this model
  • 120cm apex height means most anglers will be crouching to get in and out
  • No overwrap available limiting winter twin-skin use
  • Not suitable as a primary shelter for hard winter fishing
  • Open sides mean wind-driven rain will find its way in on exposed swims

Should You Buy This Bivvy?

Buy it if...

  • You do short sessions and day sessions and want a fast lightweight overnight capable shelter
  • You move swims regularly and cannot justify carrying a full bivvy
  • You fish spring and summer in sheltered swims where 8,000mm waterproofing is adequate
  • You want the cheapest genuine overnight capable Fox shelter available
  • You already own a bivvy and want a lightweight backup for short trips

Look elsewhere if...

  • You fish regularly through autumn and winter -- 8,000mm will not be enough
  • You need a mozzy mesh front for summer insect protection
  • You are tall and need more than 120cm of headroom
  • You want an overwrap option for cold weather twin-skin use
  • You do multi-night sessions where a proper sealed bivvy is worth the extra weight

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is The Hydrostatic Head Rating On The Fox Easy Brolly 60 Inch?

The Fox Easy Brolly 60 Inch uses 100% polyester fabric with an 8,000mm hydrostatic head rating. This is an entry-level waterproofing rating suitable for light to moderate rain and fair weather sessions. It handles typical spring and summer conditions reliably but is not designed for prolonged heavy rain or regular winter use. If you fish regularly through autumn and winter, a shelter with a minimum 10,000mm rating would be a more suitable choice.

How Heavy Is The Fox Easy Brolly 60 Inch?

The Fox Easy Brolly 60 Inch weighs 5.9kg including the groundsheet and heavy duty pegs. This makes it one of the lightest overnight capable shelters in the Fox range and genuinely manageable for mobile anglers who move swims regularly or carry kit any distance. For context, a full Fox Frontier II pram hood bivvy weighs over 15kg — the Easy Brolly is a completely different proposition for the short session or mobile angler.

Does The Fox Easy Brolly 60 Inch Come With A Groundsheet?

Yes. The Fox Easy Brolly 60 Inch is supplied with a lightweight groundsheet and heavy duty pegs as standard. This is worth noting as some brolly systems at this price point sell the groundsheet separately. The included groundsheet is a lighter weight design rather than the heavy duty PVC found on full bivvy systems, which is appropriate for the weight-conscious nature of the shelt

Is There A Mozzy Mesh Front Available For The Fox Easy Brolly 60 Inch?

No. Fox do not currently produce a mozzy mesh front panel specifically for the Easy Brolly 60 Inch. This is a notable limitation for summer sessions where insect protection is a priority. If mozzy mesh compatibility is important to you, the Fox EOS 60 Inch Brolly System is worth considering as it comes as a complete system with multiple front panel options included.
