The WhichBivvy Verdict

The Fox Easy Shelter Plus is built for anglers who would rather be fishing than faffing.

Weighing in at 3.8kg, it is one of the lightest shelters on the market, and the pop-up frame means it is up in genuinely well under a minute. Fox have addressed the main gripes with the original by adding an integrated peak so there is nothing to thread separately, and the pole retainer mouldings make pack-down noticeably less painful than before.

The slightly larger dimensions over the original give you a bit more breathing room inside, and the front panel can be fully removed or used letterbox style depending on the weather. Front and rear mozzy mesh panels open and close from inside which is a nice touch when it is hammering down and you do not fancy hanging out of the door.

At 8,000mm hydrostatic head it is not the most waterproof shelter in the Fox range, but for short sessions and decent weather it does the job well. No groundsheet and no overwrap available are worth noting before you buy.

This is a summer and fair-weather shelter first and foremost, and at this price point it knows exactly what it is.

Pros & Cons

What we like

  • At 3.8kg it is one of the lightest shelters available at any price point
  • Pop-up frame erects in well under a minute with no threading required
  • Integrated peak removes one of the most annoying steps of traditional setup
  • Front and rear mozzy mesh panels open from inside the shelter
  • Packed down to just 70cm making it ideal for barrows or even a large rucksack
  • Outstanding value at under £140 for a proper Fox shelter

Watch out for

  • 8,000mm hydrostatic head is adequate but not bombproof in heavy sustained rain
  • No groundsheet available for this model
  • No overwrap available so winter use is limited
  • At 240cm wide and 145cm deep it is compact rather than spacious
  • Not suitable for tall anglers with 122cm of headroom

Should You Buy This Bivvy?

Buy it if...

  • You do short sessions and want to be set up and fishing in under a minute
  • You walk to your swim and every kilogram matters
  • Budget is tight and you want a genuine Fox shelter without the premium price tag
  • You fish mostly spring and summer sessions where the 8,000mm waterproofing is more than adequate
  • You want an ultra-compact shelter that packs down small enough for almost any barrow bag

Look elsewhere if...

  • You fish through winter or in prolonged heavy rain where you need more than 8,000mm waterproofing
  • You are over 5ft 10in and need proper headroom for a comfortable night session
  • You want a groundsheet or overwrap option as neither are available for this model
  • You do long sessions and need more internal space for gear and a full sleep system
  • You want a year-round shelter that handles all four seasons without compromise
