The WhichBivvy Verdict

The Fox EOS MK2 is the honest answer to a question a lot of carp anglers ask - do I really need to spend five hundred quid on a bivvy?

For a lot of fishing, the answer is no, and the EOS MK2 proves it. Eight thousand millimetres of hydrostatic head with a dark laminate lining keeps you dry and the sun out, the two-rib pram hood goes up without drama, and the 112cm letterbox door is genuinely wide enough to not feel like you are squeezing through a cat flap every time you land a fish.

The 2 Man version at 300cm wide and 275cm deep gives you proper room. Two anglers can fish comfortably from it, or one solo angler gets a palace for the price of an entry-level option from the premium brands. The lay-in-place groundsheet, heavy-duty pegs and carry bag are all included in the box which at this price point is worth noting.

It is not the most waterproof shelter on the market and you will want a bivvy skin for winter use, but Fox have kept the price where it needs to be without cutting corners on the things that matter. If you are new to carp fishing or just want a solid reliable shelter for fair weather sessions, the EOS MK2 2 Man is one of the best value options available.

Pros & Cons

What we like

  • Outstanding value -- a proper 2 man pram hood for under £260
  • 300cm wide by 275cm deep gives genuinely comfortable space for two anglers
  • Dark laminate lining reduces light penetration and keeps the shelter cooler in summer
  • Extra-wide 112cm letterbox door makes getting in and out with gear much easier
  • Groundsheet, heavy-duty pegs and carry bag all included in the box
  • EOS MK2 bivvy skin available separately for winter use
  • Interchangeable mesh, PVC and solid door panels included

Watch out for

  • 8,000mm hydrostatic head is adequate but not bombproof in prolonged heavy rain
  • No zip-in groundsheet -- lay-in-place design only
  • 11.3kg total weight means this works better on a barrow than on your back
  • Winter use requires the separately purchased EOS MK2 bivvy skin
  • Two-rib frame is functional but not as rigid as more expensive pram hood designs
  • Not available in camo -- khaki only

Should You Buy This Bivvy?

Buy it if...

  • You want a 2 man pram hood at a price that does not require a second mortgage
  • You fish with a mate and need proper space for two bedchairs and all your kit
  • You are new to carp fishing and want a reliable shelter to learn with
  • You do fair weather or spring and summer sessions where 8,000mm is more than adequate
  • You want groundsheet and door panels included without paying extra

Look elsewhere if...

  • You fish hard through winter and need more than 8,000mm waterproofing as standard
  • You want a zip-in groundsheet -- the EOS MK2 uses a lay-in-place design only
  • You need camo pattern for estate or syndicate waters with strict colour rules
  • You want a shelter that will genuinely last decades of hard use -- look at the Fox Frontier II XL instead
  • You are a tall angler as 150cm of headroom can feel tight on longer sessions
