We define lightweight as 7kg bivvy-only weight or under. That is the threshold at which a shelter becomes genuinely manageable for an angler walking to a swim rather than barrowing in. Below 5kg and you can realistically carry it in a rucksack alongside the rest of your kit. Between 5 and 7kg it goes on a compact barrow without much drama. Above 7kg and you are in full barrow territory regardless of what the marketing copy says.

Weight is quoted inconsistently, here is what to check
Some manufacturers quote bivvy-only weight. Others quote total system weight including pegs, groundsheet, storm cap and carry bag. The difference can be several kilograms. The real weight versus waterproofing trade-off
Heavier fabrics with higher hydrostatic head ratings are generally more waterproof. The lightest shelters tend to use thinner fabrics with lower HH ratings.
